Privacy Policy
Dinejot helps families decide what to cook. We keep the data we collect small and we use it only to run the app for you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Sign in email. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address so we can keep your household connected to your account. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
- Household details you enter. Your household name, the profile names you add for family members, and the food preferences, diets, allergens, and health needs you set for each member.
- Meal activity. The plans Dinejot builds for you, the votes members cast, and the record of what your household has cooked.
- Push token. If you turn on notifications, we store a device push token so we can send the meal reminders and vote reminders you set. Turn notifications off and we stop.
- Approximate location (optional). Only if you turn it on, we store a coarse location for your household: your coordinates rounded on our servers to about a one kilometer area, plus the name of your city, region, and country. You can leave this off, and you can remove it later in Settings. We never store your exact position.
- Purchase state. Whether your subscription is active. Payments are processed by the App Store or Google Play, and RevenueCat manages the subscription state for us. Your card details go to Apple or Google. No card data ever touches our servers.
- Product analytics. Simple in app events, such as opening a plan or casting a vote, so we can see which features help families and fix the ones that do not.
- Feedback you send. If you send feedback or request a feature, we store your message, along with the dish and star rating when you attach them, so we can make Dinejot better. It is deleted with your account.
How we use your information
We use this information to build safe meal plans, keep your household in sync, send the notifications you asked for, honor your subscription, and improve the app. That is the whole list.
Signing in on the web
You can also sign in to Dinejot on the web with your Google account, to see your household and plan in a browser. When you do, Google sends us your account's name and email address so we can match you to the same account you use in the app. We do not receive your Google password. To keep you signed in, we set one session cookie in your browser. That cookie does nothing but keep you signed in.
Cookies and analytics on our website
Our website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful, such as which recipes get read. Google Analytics sets its own cookies in your browser and receives your IP address, the pages you view, and general information about your device and browser. We use it to understand how the site is used, and for nothing else.
This is on the website only. The Dinejot app contains no Google Analytics and no advertising software. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell anything Google Analytics collects. If you would rather not be counted, most browsers let you block cookies for a site, and Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics everywhere.
How recipe suggestions and audio menus are generated
Dinejot uses Google Gemini for three things: drafting recipes for the staple dishes you add, writing the short daily note that appears on a planned meal, and writing the script when you ask Dinejot to read your menu aloud. That spoken menu is then turned into audio by a text-to-speech provider, either fish.audio or ElevenLabs depending on the language and voice.
In every one of those cases we send only dish facts, such as the dish name, cuisine, and meal type. Personal member data is never sent to any AI or speech service. Your family's names, allergens, health needs, and votes stay with us and are used only to filter and plan.
Your approximate location
Sharing your location is optional and always your choice. Dinejot asks once, while you are setting up, and your phone's own permission dialog is where you answer. Saying no is a complete answer: the app works, and you can set your region by hand instead. Nothing about the app is locked behind it.
What we use it for. One thing: choosing recipes that suit your region and the season you are in, so your first week of plans is food that makes sense where you live. It also tells us, in aggregate, where families are cooking, which is how we decide what to add to the recipe catalog next.
What we store. A coarse location for your household: the coordinates your device provides, rounded on our servers to about a one kilometer area, together with the name of your city, region, and country. We never store your exact position, and the app never exposes your exact coordinates. We do not track your movements, we do not collect location in the background, and we read it only at the moment you say yes.
Who else sees it. Nobody. We never share it, we never sell it, we never hand it to advertisers or data brokers, and it is never used to advertise to you or to track you across apps or websites.
Removing it. You can clear your location whenever you like in Settings, and you can withdraw the permission itself in your phone's settings at any time. It is deleted when your household is deleted, which happens once the last member has left.
Meal reminders
A household manager sets the reminder times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the household settings. When a reminder time arrives, Dinejot sends a gentle push that names the dish planned for that meal. These reminders only reach your phone if you have turned notifications on, and any member can turn notifications off on their own device whenever they like.
Payments
In the app, subscriptions are sold through the App Store and Google Play, and RevenueCat manages the subscription state for us. On our website, subscriptions are sold through Polar, our merchant of record, who handles the checkout and any tax due. In every case we receive only your subscription status, so we can unlock the app. We never see or store your payment card, and no card data ever touches our servers.
What we do not do
- We do not show ads, anywhere.
- We do not sell your data, and we never share it for anyone else's advertising.
- We do not embed advertising software, and the app itself carries no third party analytics. The one third party measurement tool we use is Google Analytics, on our website only, and it is described above.
- We do not track your location in the background, or follow you across other apps.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, in your household settings. Deletion removes your identity and your seat in the household. If you would rather we do it for you, email us and we will remove your account. When the last member of a household leaves, that household and its meal data are deleted with it.
Children
Dinejot is a tool for the adults who plan a household's meals. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Where you are
Dinejot is built for families cooking in many places, and the recipe catalog spans a growing set of cuisines. Wherever you cook, your data is handled in the United States. If you use Dinejot from outside the United States, you consent to that handling.
A note on health
Dinejot's diet and health features help you steer plans toward the foods you want to eat more of. They are not medical advice. Please talk with your doctor about your family's health needs.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and move the effective date. For meaningful changes, we will let you know in the app.
