Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the onion and garlic until soft, about 4 minutes.

Add the beans with a splash of their liquid and cook, mashing with a potato masher or the back of a spoon, until mostly smooth.

Continue cooking, stirring and adding more of the reserved liquid as needed, until creamy and heated through, about 8 minutes.
