How to cook it

  1. Heat the oven to 350F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.

  2. Boil the spaghetti until just shy of al dente, since it finishes cooking in the oven, then drain.

  3. Brown the ground beef with the diced onion in a skillet over medium-high heat, about 7 minutes, then drain the fat and stir in the marinara and salt.

  4. Whisk the eggs with the ricotta and toss with the drained spaghetti until every strand is coated.

  5. Spread half the spaghetti in the baking dish, top with half the meat sauce and a third of the mozzarella, then repeat, finishing with the remaining mozzarella and the parmesan.

  6. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, then uncover and bake until the cheese is golden, about 15 minutes more. Rest 5 minutes before slicing.

When to cook it

Baked Spaghetti takes about 60 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
