Ingredients
The quantities follow this count.
How to cook it
-
Slice the luncheon meat, drain the kimchi a little and chop it, and slice the tofu and onion.
-
Arrange the meat, tofu, kimchi, baked beans, and onion in sections around a wide shallow pot.
-
Whisk the gochugaru, gochujang, soy sauce, and minced garlic with the water and pour it into the pot.
-
Bring to a boil at the table or on the stove and simmer 12 minutes until everything is heated through.
-
Add the noodle brick in the last 3 minutes so it cooks directly in the broth, then scatter with scallions and serve bubbling hot.

When to cook it
Budae-jjigae (Army Base Stew) takes about 30 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at lunch and dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
