How to cook it
-
The night before, soak the glutinous rice and raw peanuts separately in plenty of water for at least 6 hours or overnight, then drain both well.
-
Toss the soaked rice with half the salt.
-
Spread the rice and peanuts together in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a steamer basket and steam over boiling water, covered, until the rice is glossy and tender and the peanuts are soft, about 25 minutes, fluffing once halfway through.
-
Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat, stirring, until fragrant, about 2 minutes, then crush lightly with the remaining salt into a coarse sesame salt.
-
Scoop the rice and peanuts into bowls and sprinkle with the sesame salt to serve.
