  1. Whisk the flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, cardamom and salt together in a bowl.

  2. Whisk in the egg, milk and saffron until you have a smooth, pourable batter, then let it rest 20 minutes until slightly bubbly.

  3. Heat a lightly oiled nonstick skillet over medium heat and ladle in small rounds of batter, about a quarter cup each.

  4. Cook 2 minutes until bubbles cover the surface and the edges look set, then flip and cook 1 minute more until golden on both sides.
