How to cook it

  1. Tip the oats into a saucepan with the water and bring it to a simmer over a medium heat, stirring now and then so nothing catches on the bottom.

  2. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring, until the oats have softened and the porridge is thick. Pour in the semi-skimmed milk for the last minute to make it creamy.

  3. While it cooks, warm the berries in a small pan or in the microwave until soft and juicy. A bag of frozen summer fruits is cheaper than fresh for most of the year and works just as well.

  4. Spoon the porridge into bowls, top with the warm berries and their juice and dust with the cinnamon. The fruit does the sweetening, so there is no need for sugar or honey.
